Subjects That Should Be Required in School
I've written before on certain subjects that should be required in elementary school. Since then, the list has expanded. Operating strictly from memory and with some additions, the list is:- Logic
- Etiquette
- Leadership (and then make them lead)
- Economics
- Industrial Arts
- Cooking
- Map Reading
- First Aid
- Self-Defense
- Decision Making.
Any others?

Boundary setting.
ReplyDeleteGoal setting.
Responsibility - owning up to your actions and how you can improve upon them.
Sounds like a strong overlap with the traditional Boy Scouts, which may have had more value (indoctrination aside) that first given credit for.
ReplyDeleteTeach them how to survive. i.e. if all currencies ceased tomorrow (or one lost their job for that matter) how would you put food on the table?
ReplyDeleteFor example fishing, hunting, cooking (which is already on the list), etc.
11. Reading Comprehension
ReplyDeleteI also agree with the Personal Finance suggestion. I took Math of Finance as a subject in college and I immediately thought that it should have been required in high school.
