Tom Wolfe

Dated, but still interesting: Time magazine's interview with Tom Wolfe

I wonder if young people still read Wolfe. If not, they are missing a very perceptive mind.

After several years spent teaching college freshmen, I can say that the vast majority do little or no reading. Cultural literacy is very low, and I would guess only a small percentage of upperclassmen in English and lit course are familiar with Wolfe. As you say, too bad.

  2. Larry,

    That's depressing!

Perhaps we should be raising the voting age.

    Michael,

I agree, to about 25, judging by auto insurance company data. Apparently that's about when young people begin to act more prudently. Or at least the survivors do.
