In an effort to woo clients aiming to do business in China, a 185-lawyer Boston law firm is pulling out all the stops — adopting a Mandarin name, training its staff in the nuances of Chinese etiquette, and even giving out chopsticks to its staff and green tea freebies to clients.
The Boston Globe’s Sacha Pfeiffer writes that Beantown law firm Goulston & Storrs goes by Gu Shi Den in its new incarnation as a China-friendly firm. (The term is meant to mean “taking care of our worldwide clients at our peak capacity.”) Goulston associate Lucia Lian also chose Chinese names for the 10 lawyers in the firm’s China practice group. Attorney Timothy B. Bancroft’s Chinese handle translates into “Transcontinental Sailing,” because he reportedly likes international legal work and sailing.
