The only pain I feel from reading the review you've linked to is that the book offers only an excerpt from Joseph Heller's Something Happened. The pleasure that results from the review is that hopefully folks will be persuaded to read the entire book, a Catch-22 of office/suburban life. If you need a shot of depression, "Something Happened" is the way to go.
Your praise inspired me to buy this Minding the Store, but when I saw the headline of your post, I thought of another book by the same name, Stanley Marcus' wonderful story of Neiman-Marcus and his intertwined lives. It opens with the line: There is never a good sale for Neiman-Marcus unless it's a good buy for the customer.

ReplyDeleteA great book, it seems. Thanks for the link.
Darkov,
ReplyDeleteYours is the best description of "Something Happened" I've ever read. It's a haunting book.

ReplyDeleteWally,
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think of the book! I recall the Marcus one.
