The Man Who Was Thursday by G.K. Chesterton
Book Yourself Solid by Michael Port
A Sense of Urgency by John P. Kotter
The Divine Comedy by Dante
Just finished: Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman [Highly recommended]
About to start:
The Complete Midshipman Bolitho by Alexander Kent
The First Circle by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
What Would the Founders Do? by Richard Brookhiser
Just loved the Kent novels as a teenager. If you like him, you should look him up under his real name, Douglas Reeman, and enjoy his WW2 vintage naval novels. Also an excellent series.

Mark,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip.
I've read all of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin series and think it's a classic. Am looking forward to reading Kent.
I've read both Kent and O'Brian, and personally I think the Kent ones are better written. I liked both, but sometimes O'Brian seems a bit ponderous in the plot, whereas Kent's Bolitho character had me glued and I loved his journey.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the blog... I enjoy the regular input.
