Random Thoughts

  • If you find that you are worrying more about small things, that may be a sign that you are less in touch with the big things.
  • Periodically ask yourself whether you are vigorously reacting or initiating. Initiating is better.
  • Review the assumptions of your career and see how many are dependent upon not just good will or luck but questionable conclusions and magic. Unfortunately, magic is not a sound strategy.
  • Pay attention to the incremental. It is either flowing for you or against you.

  1. For years and years I have known that a boss three levels up who worries about particular telephone calls on the bill, or tip calculations on a meal voucher, is a boss of a hierarchy is that is leaderless and rudderless.

(Hierarchies below it may be in good hands, but it will be in spite of the boss, not because of it.)
