Two years of my life and several thousand dollars later I learned that to earn a living in music one should be gifted or rich, preferably both.
It was the most expensive music appreciation course imaginable. But hey, I really love music for my whole life, all kinds. It only took me a few years to get over being a music snob, just in time to appreciate Joplin, Hendrix and the Band. Since then, life has been wonderful.
I was a clarinet principal, Music Education, 1963-5.
