A Dash of Extraordinary
Amid all of the emphasis on basics and follow-through, it can be important to do the extraordinary, if only to stretch the mind. Restrict your imagination long enough and you'll fall prey to the "We do it this way because we've always done it this way" school of thought.
I saw this recently with a group that was meeting on a proposed course of action. Discussion of the new approach quickly evolved into consideration of an even greater change which no one had anticipated. The key ingredient in the process was the willingness to consider the unusual. You could sense the excitement as people realized that no option was off the table and long-held assumptions could be questioned. The more those were explored, the less they seemed in keeping with the goals of the group.
The decision has not been finalized, but I'm confident that it will be extraordinary.
