It has come to my attention that many young people do not know - much less use - some of our most colorful words. It would be sad if these great tools of communication were lost. How many of you not only know the meaning of the following words, but occasionally use them? [Definitions may be found on Google.]
- Mollycoddle
- Pussyfoot
- Hornswoggle
- Bamboozle
- Poltroon
- Canard
- Lollygag
- Bodacious
- Crone
- Gigolo
- Palaver
- Hobnob
- Minion
- Toady
- Mossback
I know 8, and I looked up the rest. I probably occasionally use mollycoddle, pussyfoot, minion and bamboozle.
ReplyDeleteI like hubris, reticent, pulchritudinous, laconic plus a plethora of our local vernacular.
Yes but young people have a language all their own...
Bob,
ReplyDeleteHubris is a personal favorite and a major concept in my ethics classes.
