I thought this sounded familiar. It has been said, in many variations, through the ages. My favorite form is the Irish "Act as if..." I can't find a version older than this Socrates quote: "The nearest way to glory -- a shortcut, as it were -- is to strive to be what you wish to be thought to be" - quoted in Cicero, 44 BC.
