If your emphasis is on process you should also worry about results. If your emphasis is on results, you should also worry about process.
The process-obsessed executive or manager can slip into a realm in which poor results are acceptable if the process was pristine. Conversely, those obsessed with results may signal that ethical and legal lapses are acceptable if the right results were produced.
Bluntly put, it is "The operation was a success, the patient died" versus "All's well that ends well."
Taken to an extreme, each leaning can head the ship toward the rocks. Savvy leaders watch for such deviations even if there is no recognition in their performance evaluations of the need for balance.
We may have to overcome a skewed reward system if we are going to do the job well.
