Depicting Presidents on Film
Michael Medved gives his list of the five best movie presidents. [Although the film was far from accurate, I thought Brian Keith did a good job capturing the essence of Theodore Roosevelt in The Wind and the Lion.]
Medved makes an interesting point about wanting a Pierce movie. It seems most movies either highlight very famous people such as Lincoln, or obscure nobodies who serve as an everyman. However I'd be interested to see a movie about people who were close to famous events and famous people, but most non-history buffs haven't heard of. I think the movie about Adams was a pretty good treatment of taking a now less well known founding father in this way.
I'd like to see a movie about Salmon P Chase, and especially like to see who gets cast as his daughter, who ruled the Washington social scene for years.

Daniel,
ReplyDeleteExcellent observation. The Chase film could be fascinating.
I'd like to see one on Coolidge, one of our truly under-rated presidents.
