When People Use Different Dictionaries
Person A: "I am in favor of that" means "I strongly favor that. Period. No reservations."
Person B: "I am in favor of that" means "I favor it at the moment but I'm likely to switch if I hear a reasonable alternative."
Person C: "I am in favor of that" means "I favor that because an ally favors that (or an adversary opposes it) and not because I personally have any affection for that particular action."
Person D: "I am in favor of that" means "I am in favor of that but I will say or do nothing else to support it."
Person E: "I am in favor of that" means "I am in favor of what I think that is but I know so little of the subject that my support means little."
Person F: "I am in favor of that" means "Nothing because I only said that to make you feel good."
Person G: "I am in favor of that" means "I favor it in general but seldom when it comes to specifics."
Person H: "I am in favor of that" means "I favor that in public but never in private" or the opposite.
