I've been there! There's a piano bar on the wharf that had fried calamari on the bar like others have popcorn. Best calamari I ever had. There was a bookstore nearby too - that's where I bought my copy of Cannery Row by Steinbeck.
Monterey is very nice. Have not been there in years. It used to have a pizza place which you entered through the back of a phonebooth. The bust of Steinbeck on Cannery Row is a nice touch.
