Film Break

The trailers for:

The Weakest Link in the Chain

It was 1927. A famous Italian aviator was going to land a seaplane at Theodore Roosevelt Lake in Arizona so he could refuel for his flight to the coast.

And then something happened.

Art Break: Mor

Art Contrarian looks at the work of Anthonius Mor.

Limiting Speech at the University of California

Eugene Volokh has a scary essay on the "microaggressions" policies at the University of California.

This isn't about sensitivity. It is about using sensitivity as a form of repression.

Perfectionism and Impatience

Two of the great enemies of achievement are perfectionism and impatience.

Perfectionism can cause us to delay completion indefinitely because there is always more to do, always something to polish.

Impatience can cause us to complete actions too early in the guise of getting things done but then the desired results may never be obtained - we don't always get more than one bite at the apple - or we may have to spend even more time doing it over.

Check yourself out. I know which of the two fit my inclinations and I fight a daily battle against it.

Which is yours?

Music Break: Bach

This has been a hectic day. Some civilization is needed.

I've posted this before and will do so again.

Consider it therapy.

Guidelines

We'll work from a draft developed from the previous meeting and discover if what was said then is what we really want. The tone and approach will be scrutinized and words will be polished.

But the most important test will be to consider the document's future. If, in a year or so, the pages are marked up and dog-eared, that will be good. If the document is clean and in a drawer, that will be very bad news.

What Thinking Reveals

There are times when the main job of thinking is not to determine what something means but to discover what is missing. It can be difficult to know the first if you don't know the second.

Quote of the Day

Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted.
