Workplace Infections

Fear
Effects: Debilitating paralysis. Irrational thinking.
Description: Highly infectious. Easily spread by gossip.
Cause: Perceived lack of control.
Cure: Increasing the sense of control.

Excessive Worry
Effects: Caution. Stress. Timidity.
Description: A tendency to envision the worst case scenario regardless of the likelihood of the dreaded events actually occurring.
Cause: Imagination. Insecurity.
Cure: A heavy dosage of reality. The real world is seldom as worrisome as the imagined one.

Hubris
Effects: Delusional and/or arrogant decision making. Ethical compromises.
Description: Extreme arrogance. Normally found at the upper levels of organizations. Inner circles of charismatic leaders may be especially prone to infection.
Cause: Isolation. Perceptions of grandeur.
Cure: Exposure to vigorous criticism and dissent.
