Perception can be so deceiving. A skilled film director can take a series of innocent actions and, with appropriate lighting and music, make them appear menacing.
Some people carry such directors around in their heads. You can drive them wild by behaving honorably. Their analytical skills will overload as they search for an ulterior motive. They are so absorbed by the metamessage that they miss the fact that sometimes the message is complete unto itself. As has been said, sometimes an umbrella is only an umbrella. There is nothing more.
I have found that behaving properly is one of the most Machiavellian tactics of all if you want to confuse your enemies. And besides, doing good deserves at least one guilty pleasure.
