Would a Lee Harvey Oswald doll be appropriate at the Kennedy Center? Ratchet it up. How about a Himmler doll at The Holocaust Museum?
Such stories of obvious blunders are hardly rare. I suspect that a common reaction is "How did that ever get approved?" Setting aside the vile nature of those who produce the Booth bobblehead, someone somewhere decided to buy it, someone else stocked the shelves, and you wonder if a cashier or two didn't raise an eyebrow when fielding a purchase or complaint.
Perhaps in the assault of tasteless movies and advertisements - some of the worst ads are in the "style" magazines - we lose the sense that would cause us to say, "Wait a minute."

Reminds me of a hand carved nativity scene I saw at the Gift Shop on Grandfather Mt., NC. Beautifully done except that all the characters happened to be BLACK BEARS! It was so tasteless that part of me had to have it, but I restrained myself!
Guy Fawkes masks are really popular from what I understand. Maybe in another 250 years Booth will be a popular anti-hero in a similar way.
Take a step back and work out at what point was this a good idea. It's good to be critical, but at some point somebody thought it was a good idea, it's good to have analysis at that point. All too often you can find that it was never a good idea, but nobody said anything...
