A was a below-average leader but few people realized that - in fact, some thought he was tops - and so when B came along she was praised because she was average and compared to A was pretty impressive but then C arrived and he was way below average but by then the bar had been dropped so he was deemed acceptable and people got mad at those snooty critics who said he was an empty suit.
Keep making excuses and lowering standards and one day you'll discover that weasels and buffoons are thought to be Lincolns and Churchills.
