What do those equal?
In many cases they equal the ability to convince a lot of people that the person is as things seem and that serious substance is present.
How often have you explored the writings and speeches of a reputed "deep thinker" only to discover an empty suit?
Remember Tacitus's scathing description of Galba: "No one would have doubted his ability to reign had he never been emperor."
