Bock's Collection

Wally Bock has leadership reading to start your week.

Bursts and Breaks

Since we usually work in bursts rather than one continuous flow, it is important to make those as productive as possible.

Likewise, it is similarly important to make our breaks as productive as possible.

Don't let the bursts and breaks merge or blur because then you'll lose the full value of each.

Quote of the Day

Never esteem anything as of advantage to thee that shall make thee break thy word or lose thy self-respect.

Art Break: Godwin

Art Contrarian looks at the work of illustrator Karl Godwin.

Memorable

Some months later, at my apartment in Manhattan, I went to look up something in my old edition of Aristotle's collected works and discovered that Scanlon had been there too. He had written on the flyleaf: "John, I'm proud to be your good friend and intellectual peer. As ever, Aristotle."

- From John Leo's remembrance of the late John Scanlon in "Scanlon Was Here," City Journal, Spring 2016

"Moscow never sleeps."

Spiegel Online has a profile of a vibrant city.

[I'm reminded of Alexander Haig's description of a glamorous Moscow restaurant scene as being like Beverly Hills, only without the communists.]

Reality Check

From today's Cultural Offering:

“Governing is a specific and limited activity, easily corrupted when combined with any other.  The conjunction of dreaming and ruling generates tyranny.”
Michael Oakeshott
