During the first year of my consulting practice I was shocked to find that businesses were closed on New Year's Day. What were they doing taking the day off when I was working?
That's an amusing memory now, somewhat akin to the shock that former students encounter when they learn that most of the world doesn't offer Spring Breaks.
I grandly announced to my wife that I plan to take off this week. Of course, there's a proposal to be revised, some book chapters to write, correspondence, and several errands to run but those are not barking due dates. Part of the reason for the sudden vacation is that most of my clients are out and so this is a good time to kick back.
And the traffic is really light.
I may buy some sparklers.
