Charisma Doesn't Cut It

This University of Pittsburgh study of CEOs finds that there is no relationship between charisma and performance over the long term.

Bravo!

Charismatic leaders often weaken teams and organizations because the force of their personalities causes the followers to become dependent. The stereotype of the charismatic, eloquent leader is an attractive one, but it just doesn't hold up as a model.

Can there be great leaders who are charismatic? Sure, but you'll also find greatness in many shy, boring, and introverted ones.
