Denial of Reality



I find it difficult to watch news footage from the 1930s showing the leadership of Nazi Germany without wondering how on earth anyone of sane mind could think that those people were not evil and were not going to start a war. A Time magazine article written shortly after Hitler gained the chancellorship speculated that the responsibilities of power might temporize the street politician. 

Yeah, sure.

Read the current news and you can find other fantasies. The capacity to deny reality often wears a cloak of sophisticated pragmatism and yet it is the least pragmatic of all things.
