You will never find a poor performance by Edward G. Robinson.

I watched that movie decades ago, and I still am struck at how well I remember it, at least the scenes with Robinson. I think what made it so fantastic was that for most of his scenes, Robinson underplayed it, like the character was disinterested in what was going on around him. But during the final showdown he was came alive, fully in the moment, like a sleepy cat about to pounce on a mouse.

It just packed a huge wallop considering the scene had no physical action.

Excellent point.

I find it impossible to watch anyone but Robinson when he is in a scene.
