I remember a scene from one of Tony Hillerman's books about how you could tell the tourists from the Arizona natives by watching how they started their car if it were sitting in the Arizona summer sun. The Arizona natives would start by wrapping their bandana around their hand so they could touch the car door without getting burned ...

That's true. The other day I was reminded of such strategies while driving a car that had been out in the sun. Touching the steering wheel was dicey for a while.
