During coaching sessions, I occasionally notice an "unwrapped gift" in the room: an activity that the person would really like to do and would be quite capable of doing and yet, for some reason, has not tried.
Careful listening is necessary, but there is a magical moment when that unwrapped gift is noticed.

I'm intrigued. Could you give me an example of one of these little nuggets without revealing any names (which I know you wouldn't).
Julian,
Here's one. A department has gone through a reorganization and has become much smaller. The reasoning behind the reorganization is unknown but the general view is the department has lost clout due to the reduction.
The unwrapped gift is they have more time and, by chance, have the most experienced executives in their subject area. They can now use their extraordinary knowledge to coach and train people both in their department and others. By doing so, they share knowledge, forge alliances with and gain support from other departments, and hone their own skills.
I hope this is of assistance.
Michael
