Refining the "To Do" List
Many "To Do" lists would benefit from an added feature: the "To Do It Easily" amendment.
Do not assume that we naturally gravitate toward the easier or easiest option.
Quite the contrary.
Helpful Questions
A few to keep in mind:
- "And then what?"
- "Where are you going to get the money?"
- "Specifically who is going to do exactly what by precisely when?"
- "If this somehow doesn't work out, what do you think would be the likely reason?"
- "Do they mean the same thing we mean when they use that term?"
- "What is it you don't want to see?"
- "How does this move us forward?"
Quote of the Day
My mother used to say there are no strangers, only friends you haven't met yet. She's now in a maximum security twilight home in Australia.

When Cuddly Creatures Attack
Althouse notes the story of the woman who killed a rabid raccoon with her bare hands.
No running fanatics have commented on whether a rabid beast in your path is sufficient excuse to interrupt a jog.
The news story itself is interesting. I especially like the mention of the dog food bag. Nice touch.
The Stephen King reference also deserves points.

Back in Town
I was speaking on leadership to a conference of executives and managers from Arizona counties.
The event was held at the Twin Arrows Casino Resort, which is run by the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise.
As you can tell from the website, it is a very slick operation.

First Paragraph
It is satisfying, and at the same time slightly eerie, to read in an official military history of an action in which you took part, even as a very minor and bewildered participant. A coloured picture of men and guns and violent movement comes between the eye and the printed page; smells return to the nostrils, of dusty heat and oil and cordite smoke, and you hear again the rattle of small arms and crash of explosions, the startled oaths and the yells of command. And if the comparison is a humbling one, it is worth making if only to show how dehumanized military history has to be.
