The friend without footnotes will listen to your craziest ideas and not think less of you. You don't need to choose words carefully because the benefit of the doubt is always given; in any event, a few words and perhaps a raised eyebrow are sufficient to convey your meaning. Your goals and disasters are already known and are part of your charm. You could complete one another's sentences but never do. Stories that have been told before are rarely interrupted. There is no mindless praise. A simple "You might want to rethink that" is the closest thing to a reprimand. The conversation may meander there is never a footnote.
