We need a candid public debate about what social glue is necessary to keep diverse people living together in peace. Tragically, one has to risk being called a racist to even begin a discussion. This is more than a personal risk; it is a serious threat to America's future. When we inappropriately use a word like "racist" indiscriminately, we diminish the original meaning of the word. There is a Gresham's law to language, and we do not want to dilute the word because, clearly, there are still racists out there, and it still has valid application.
