Doing Nothing, But Not Really

There are ways to do nothing that can produce more than rest. We all have our own techniques but the ones I've found to be successful are:

  • Sitting alone at an outdoor cafe or coffee shop with a legal pad and a cup of coffee.
  • Listening to Handel or Bach.
  • Taking a drive.
  • Working a jigsaw puzzle.
  • Drawing an idea and then seeing how many others could connect to the first.
  • People-watching.
  • Absolute silence.
  • Slowly performing a simple task such as dish-washing or gardening.
