Don't Count on It
"Probably every schoolboy knows that General Zachary Taylor and General Winfield Scott won important American victories in the war with Mexico." - Douglas D. Martin in Yuma Crossing, a history book first published in 1954
I hazard to say that at this point, almost no schoolboy has even heard of Scott and very few of Taylor, and a large majority wouldn't know the US ever went to war with Mexico, or why.
