Top Three Television Show Themes

This is what happens when people are sitting at home. They think up weird contests.

Well, who can resist? There has been some argument on Twitter about the top three musical themes for television programs. It is difficult, nay impossible, to beat this list:

1st Place

Second Place

Third Place

Hawaii 5-O

The theme song from Maverick

Barney Miller

But the all-time best was the theme from The Sopranos. Only TV theme song I regularly play on a jukebox.

Chris,

Great choices!

Some other contenders: Miami Vice, Bonanza, Dr. Kildare.

And I have to admit that The Sopranos theme is excellent.

All great selections. I was always partial to Hogan's Heroes, Yes, probably a bit goofy.

Vince,

Journalist/author Joel Engel believes the theme for "Mr. Ed" should grab all three top slots.

"Hogan's Heroes" is a contender.

I haven't commented in some time, but I always read your blog. Thank you. I must cast my vote for the themes for Paladin and Tombstone Territory. I also recognize those themes with lyrics, not because of the music, but because anyone who watched Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, Mr. Ed, Branded, Rawhide, and Gilligan's Island can still sing them to this day. I applaud The Sopranos theme, especially when it is played for Fat Tony on my favorite TV program The Simpsons.

Texas Leigh,

It's good to hear from you.

Thanks for the names of shows I'd overlooked.

I don't recall the Paladin theme and will check it out.
