Unusual WWII Novels

I just finished reading "All for Nothing" by Walter Kempowski, an excellent novel about a German family in east Prussia near the end of World War II.

Some other unusual WWII novels that I highly recommend:

  • "The Time of the Assassins" by Godfrey Blunden
  • "Life With a Star" by Jiri Weil
  • "Mendelssohn Is on the Roof" by Jiri Weil
  • "The Balkan Trilogy" by Olivia Manning
  • "The Levant Trilogy" by Olivia Manning
  • "An Operational Necessity" by Gwyn Griffin
