I drove down to Tucson this afternoon. On the way, it was shocking to see how much snow was on the mountains in the distance; peaks that normally never have snow.
On Saturday, there was even snow in the north of Phoenix and Scottsdale. In the past, the local weather reporters have proclaimed snow if a random flake or two dropped, but this time it was the real thing.
I lived in Tucson for years and enjoyed it. It has a cooler climate and prettier desert than Phoenix. Tucsonans love to hate Phoenix, which they regard as the metro-sprawl to the north, but judging from their outskirts, they now have some metro-sprawl of their own.
When you see what developers have done to some of the desert areas, it is easy to turn into Edward Abbey.
