Too Clever By Half

I’m finishing Anthony Everitt’s extraordinary biography of Cicero. Despite his many admirable qualities, Cicero had one major weakness: he used his wit a little too often and, as a result, made unnecessary enemies.

Isn’t it nice that we never do that?

It reminds me of a saying: "Use your wit as a shield and not as a dagger."
