What your boss didn't tell you but hopes you understand:
1. Telling you to shape up an area doesn't mean you have a blank check to create unnecessary personnel problems in the process.
2. Having turf wars with peers is a loser because your boss doesn't want to hear who started it and is likely to blame both of you.
3. Using a witty but disparaging nickname for the boss is a reflection of poor judgment since it normally reaches his desk within 48 hours.
4. Having lunch with your boss's sworn enemies creates the impression of guilt by association.
5. Giving your boss's boss information without giving your boss a "heads-up" about the incident is not appreciated.
6. Being passionately attached to a position is a virtue only up to a point. After that, it becomes a nuisance.
7. Taking initiative to prevent problems is more highly valued than taking initiative to solve problems.
