If the concept of projection, in which a person ascribes his or her own feelings or inclinations to others, is valid, then there is little reason to wonder why those who make the following comments can make us nervous:
"Anyone in an executive job is going to look out for himself first, last, and always. They'll know where their bread is buttered."
"If they say it's the principle of the thing and not the money, then you can bet it's the money."
"If they were in our shoes, they'd do it to us."
"Don't tell me she did that simply because it was the right thing to do. People aren't wired like that."
