Although many people will groan about Jim Lehrer's hands-off moderation of last night's presidential debate, this should be said in his favor: He got out of the way. As a result, we got a clearer view of both candidates.
I hope we eventually get to the point where a moderator will be needed solely for administrative chores and the candidates will just talk. As was witnessed last night, much is gained when you don't have journalists trying to score points or run interference.

I totally agree with you Michael. I think Lerher was not trying to make a name for himself and recognized that he needed to let the candidates talk.

He deserves commendation and not the criticism he's been getting. It was some of the best debate moderation I've seen.
