Sorting the Books

Our office is on the verge of a move. I've been going through the bookshelves, finding some treasures amid many volumes that are, well, expendable. Do I really need that? Might that come in handy some day?

If it hasn't come in handy for the past five years, it probably won't anytime soon. Off it goes to the used bookstore where we can get a credit for a discount on - yes - more business books. Some authors, such as the sainted Drucker, always have some wisdom to impart, while others are only worth a quick scan, if that. Once my initial sorting is done, I will identify the volumes that are most heavily used. It may be that the remaining books will go through another culling.

I agonize over a few of them. Am I doing the author justice? Does this volume not contain a single insight that I can use?

To paraphrase an old line, the executions will continue until morale improves,

Of course, you could get digitized copies of all the books, and reclaim all of your shelf space, and never sell a book to a used book store again. Ebooks - Prescription against the killing fields.
