The Annual Christmas Carol Debate

As can be seen here and here and here, there are plenty of opinions about which version of "A Christmas Carol" is best.

I posted on this seemingly mild topic years ago and was surprised at the intensity of the opinions. Performances that some regard as marginal or barely adequate are held by others as definitive.

This is further confused by Hollywood's tendency to crank out a new version every five years or so.
We may eventually reach the point where any star of note has done time shouting "Humbug" or toting Tiny Tim. [I'm just pleased that the Mr. Magoo version is getting more attention. I can still recall some of the songs.]

Okay, fess up. Has your nominee for the best version changed?

It's corny but my husband and I love the 1970 musical film version, "Scrooge" that starred Albert Finney.

CincyCat,

I confess to have seen only portions of that film. Will give it a try.

There is one version and Alistair Sim stars in it.

Kurt,

He is the benchmark against which all versions are placed.
