Your primary responsibilities in a leadership position are not to:
- Shape up the team.
- Inspire.
- Weed out the deadwood.
- Enforce the rules.
- Create new programs.
All of those may be needed and wise courses of action, but your primary responsibilities are twofold: to be ethical and effective. If that means being soft-spoken, methodical, and slow-moving, so be it.
