Conversation

He had returned from a part of the state where cell phone coverage is dicey and he was now in a spot where a call stood a decent chance of completion. He has regular business concerns and a business on the side but that takes more time in the summer and so this is his busy season. He is the sort of person who is impossible to dislike and I'd suspect is often described as "down to earth" although he also has a doctorate, a fact that I know but which he has never mentioned. We covered a lot of topics and he shifted into a businessman's version of "I'm just a poor country lawyer." Although we were on the phone, I instinctively grabbed my wallet and told him that I didn't believe that for a second. He said, "Remind me to tell you about how I flunked out of the second grade."

I will.
