Our Times



Watch closely enough and you'll see mediocrity praised as genius, cruelty described as justice, incompetence as spontaneity, a conniving inner circle as "the people," one person as "the community," vulgarity as honesty, bias as journalism, wishes as reality, and theories as facts.

In other words,times rarely change. Let's muddle through them.

I just read Thomas Sowell's The Vision of the Anointed, and he provides a good survey and explanation for this sort of thing. I think he would say that most of the things you name belong to the category of distortions that is created and fostered by our 'anointed' class.
