Review-and-Think Day

I spent part of the day examining various aspects of ostracism in the workplace.

[This wasn't strictly an intellectual exercise. It ties in with some classes I'm preparing.]

So today was a review-and-think day. What is fun about the process is that past projects come to mind. Thoughts drift in and you greet them like old friends.

Finally, in the late afternoon, came The Big Original Thought, an insight on a particular issue which I've been working on for years. I'm waiting for this thought to show some weaknesses but so far none have surfaced.

I'll see how The Big Original Thought looks tomorrow. It will be tested as matters proceed but I have a very good feeling about its potential.

Very nice.

Allow me to pass along a tech-world item. In many high productivity environments, new employees are treated with both suspicion and outright disdain. The new employee is essentially punished to see how they react. The old employees want to know if the newbie can be trusted to handle things when the chips are down. Prove yourself, and you're welcomed into the fold. Fail, and poof ... thanks for playing.

So sometimes what looks like ostracism is testing.

I've seen that. In general, I'm not wild about it.
