Random Thoughts

Many a person has procrastinated by reading books on how to get things done. ~ I've seen executive transitions which are the equivalent of an accomplished driver handing over a race car with a stick-shift to a person with a new driver's license who only knows how to drive a station wagon with an automatic transmission. ~ In the scheme of things, the things are often more important than the scheme. ~ One of the quickest ways to destroy your own credibility is to defend unethical or incompetent behavior by another. ~ Beware of policy rationalizations which are indirect insults. ~ A good measurement of a leader is not only the caliber of those in the inner circle but also of those who choose to leave. ~ If I had a time travel machine I'd want to see the Sermon on the Mount and the first performance of Rhapsody in Blue. ~ There is much to be said for silence. ~ Every house needs at least one extraordinarily comfortable chair. ~ The concept of government as vending machine is still with us. ~ The other side is not uncaring. It just cares about other things. ~ If given the choice, many thoroughly honest people are so fearful of freedom that they would choose to live in a minimum security prison. ~ Just as we know more about the surface of the moon than we know what's under the ocean, we know more about other people than we know about ourselves. ~ When correspondents and politicians pal around together, the public good is rarely served. ~ We may like "cool" people but we prefer a "square" surgeon.
