Your post brought back some great memories. There were a few years in the late 1990s through the early 2000s when I attended annual meetings of a higher education professional organization every July in Phoenix, and I stopped by the Botanical Garden just about every trip. It's a fascinating place. It was pretty toast in July (I'm sure the organization sponsoring the meetings got a discounted rate on the conference facility). The last time I was there was in December 2006 passing through Phoenix with my son on my way to the Grand Canyon (it was my first trip all the down to Phantom Ranch). Much cooler, and a great start to an awesome trip. I've been back to the Grand Canyon twice with Joe, but you're reminded me to stop back there the next time I'm in Phoenix.

Steve,

Those sound like great trips. The Botanical Garden is a fascinating place and it was a very good idea to drop by there on your way to the Grand Canyon.

Be sure also to check out the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum near Tucson. It is located in a beautiful desert area and they've done a great job with the museum, which is really more of a zoo.
