Here's hoping the Olympics in Rio are a pleasant surprise and go off without a major hitch. After hearing some of the horror stories, however, it strikes me that future event planners should consider having a couple of default locations; places that already have the facilities and ability to pull off the games if, say, at least a year out it is determined that the host city is not fulfilling its obligations.
Another option is to have permanent locations. Athens would be a natural for the summer games. Aside from tradition, that would provide another opportunity for the Greeks to get money from Germans.
