Social Media: Bang for the Buck?

Photo by Jens Kreuter at Unsplash

There are people who can talk about social media with such enthusiasm that I feel that it's high school and I'm surrounded by jocks and cheer leaders discussing the Big Game while I was just elected president of The Chess Club.

Although a blogger and a mere dabbler in matters Twitteresque, I am a very faint presence on FaceBook and LinkedIn and don't even reach ghost status at other sites.

So here's the question: which non-blog social media sites do you think are the best investment of your time?

I may be completely missing the value of some of them and probably don't even know of some hot ones. If you've also found any significant business value in any of them, please let me know.

While entirely personal, I do like Instagram because, unlike Facebook, the picture format seems to filter out some of the drama while still allowing me to keep up with contacts. I use Snapchat but mostly to see what my kids and their friends are up to. The blog - and its connections - has absolutely been the greatest investment of my time.

Kurt,

Thanks. I have heard good things about Instagram.

Will be checking it out.

I just got instagram, and I don't even know what to do with it. Seems to be mostly pictures of trees and flowers.

Snapchat is good for looking at celebrities. And so pictures people send me don't fill up my phone memory.

Just don't stop blogging. -Bobbo

Bobbo,

Thanks for your comments.

There are many days when I am tempted to stop blogging but I'm hanging in there.

Best,

Michael

Significant business value, as you asked? None. But that's just me. E.
