Re-Reading a Classic
My bedtime reading has been Olivia Manning's The Balkan Trilogy. I first read it several years ago and my latest reaction is: "Wow. This is even better than I recall." A novel about a young British couple in Romania at the start of World War II may not sound intriguing but the story succeeds on several levels. Truly extraordinary. And don't miss the sequel, The Levant Trilogy. It's equally great.
